What to Do After Winning a Kerala Lottery

After winning a Kerala lottery, confirm the number officially, sign the ticket and keep it undamaged. Then collect the documents and claim within 90 days of the draw. This page covers the first days, in order, from the result to the claim office.

What do you do first after winning a Kerala lottery?

The first step after a win is to confirm the number with an official source. The second is to sign the back of the ticket. Every later step depends on an original, signed and undamaged ticket.

  1. Confirm the draw code, date and number on the LOTIS result page or the official sheet.
  2. Scan the ticket’s QR code with the official Bhagya Keralam app.
  3. Sign the back of the ticket and write your name as it appears on your Aadhaar card.
  4. Copy both sides of the ticket and self-attest the copy.
  5. Store the original flat, dry and away from heat.
  6. Note the last claim date: 90 days from the draw.
  7. Collect the documents for your prize amount.
  8. Surrender the ticket at the office for your amount, by post or through a bank.

The Directorate of State Lotteries publishes these instructions on its prize claim page. The page was last updated on 24 March 2026.

How do you confirm a Kerala lottery win?

You confirm a Kerala lottery win with the official sheet, the LOTIS page or the Bhagya Keralam app. All 3 come from the Directorate of State Lotteries. A screenshot or a forwarded message is not proof.

The official sheet is a digitally signed PDF. Its last page says authenticity is verified through statelottery.kerala.gov.in. The sheet advises winners to verify their numbers with the Kerala Government Gazette.

Which part of the number decides the prize?

Each prize tier has its own matching rule. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes need the series letters and all six digits. The consolation prize needs the first-prize digits in another series. The 4th to 9th prizes match the last 4 digits only.

A match counts only in the draw printed on the ticket. An ending that won in Karunya KR-770 wins nothing on a ticket from another draw.

What do you write on the back of a winning ticket?

You write your name and signature on the back, exactly as on your Aadhaar card. Rule 9 of the Kerala Paper Lotteries (Regulation) Rules 2005 adds your address. The Directorate asks buyers to sign as soon as they buy a ticket.

A signed ticket links the prize to one person. Form V, the claim form for prizes above ₹10,000, asks you to declare that the reverse is filled in. Use a pen and keep the writing clear of the printed number.

How do you keep a winning ticket safe?

You keep a winning ticket safe by storing the original flat, dry and unaltered until you surrender it. The Directorate refuses prizes on tampered or damaged tickets. Rule 9 requires tickets in good condition.

  • Keep the original in a dry envelope, away from water and heat.
  • Keep a self-attested copy of both sides in a separate place.
  • Show the original only at the claim office or your bank.
  • Avoid folding across the number, the barcode or the QR code.

A torn ticket above ₹10,000 is paid only when the office confirms it is genuine. The winner first files Form VIII, a sworn affidavit. The full rules are on the damaged and lost tickets page linked below.

How long do you have after winning a Kerala lottery?

You have 90 days from the draw date to surrender the winning ticket. Every official result sheet prints this limit. The Directorate’s prize claim page states the same limit.

Draw Draw date Last claim date
Onam Bumper BR-111 26 September 2026 25 December 2026
Sthree Sakthi SS-539 29 September 2026 28 December 2026
Karunya KR-770 3 October 2026 1 January 2027

Prizes not claimed in time become the property of the Government, according to Rule 9. Start the claim in the first week. Document errors take time to fix.

Which documents do Kerala lottery winners collect?

Winners above ₹10,000 collect Form V, a photo and copies of the passbook, PAN card and Aadhaar card. The Directorate lists these on its prize claim page. Your Aadhaar and PAN must be linked.

Prize Documents listed by the Directorate
Above ₹10,000 Signed original ticket, Form V, passport-size photo, passbook copy with IFSC, PAN copy, Aadhaar copy
Joint win All of the above, plus Form VI attested by a notary
Winner from another state All of the above, plus the Form VII affidavit attested by a notary
Below ₹10,000 Application, signed original ticket, Aadhaar copy, passbook copy of a single bank account

The passbook copy shows the name, address, account number, branch and IFSC. Form V names the bank account for the deposit. Prizes up to ₹5,000 are collected by any authorised agent in Kerala.

How much is deducted from a Kerala lottery prize?

Two deductions apply: the agent’s commission and income tax. TDS is 30% on prizes above ₹10,000, plus 4% cess. TDS falls under Section 393(3) of the Income-tax Act 2025 (formerly Section 194B).

The Directorate’s prize claim page confirms both deductions. Rule 9 adds that income tax and surcharge are deducted and sent to the Income Tax Department. The agent’s commission is 10% on prizes above ₹10,000, according to Onmanorama.

A prize up to ₹10,000 has no TDS. The prize page for each draw shows the amount of each tier.

Which scams target new Kerala lottery winners?

Scams target winners with fake prize messages and demands for a fee before release. Kerala Police warn that every such fee demand is a scam. Genuine prizes are paid by the Directorate after a claim with the original ticket.

  • Fake wins: messages announcing a ₹5 lakh prize, followed by a GST or stamp-duty demand.
  • Fake apps: Kerala Police counted 60 fake apps in August 2024.
  • Fake profiles: the same warning listed 25 fake Facebook profiles and 20 websites.
  • Copied websites: fake sites copy the official design and emblem, per a July 2026 warning.

The Lottery Director stated in October 2025 that the department has no tie-up with any website or app. Report fraud on the cyber helpline 1930. Share your ticket number only with the claim office or your bank.

Each claim office and the bank route are set out in how to claim a Kerala lottery prize.
