Kerala Lottery Ticket Security Features

A genuine Kerala lottery ticket carries a barcode, a serial number, a QR code and an office counterfoil. These four features are confirmed by official sources. This page lists only those sources and names the claims that no official source supports.

What security features does a Kerala lottery ticket carry?

A Kerala lottery ticket carries a barcode, serial and cross numbering, a QR code and a matching counterfoil. The Kerala Books and Publications Society (KBPS) prints the first three. The counterfoil check is set by Rule 9 of the Kerala Paper Lotteries (Regulation) Rules 2005.

Who prints Kerala lottery tickets?

The Kerala Books and Publications Society prints Kerala lottery tickets. KBPS has printed and supplied lottery tickets for the Government since 1984. The work runs under strict security arrangements, according to KBPS. The press follows the specification ordered by the Director of State Lotteries.

The lottery department takes delivery directly from the press after strict verification.

What is the barcode on a Kerala lottery ticket?

The barcode is a computer-generated machine code printed on every ticket. KBPS started computer-generated bar code numbering on 1 January 2008. From 1984 to 2007, tickets were numbered on letter-press machines and checked by hand.

The current system prints 3 items by computer: the barcode, the serial number and the cross number. The software comes from the lottery department. KBPS supervises the numbering work inside the press.

What does the QR code on a Kerala lottery ticket do?

The QR code confirms that the ticket is authentic. KBPS describes it as a machine-readable label that the public can check. The official Bhagya Keralam app scans the QR code and confirms genuineness and prizes.

KBPS prints the barcode, the QR code and the variable data on a high-speed inkjet system. Variable data is the part that changes from ticket to ticket, such as the number.

What is the counterfoil?

The counterfoil is the stub of the ticket kept in the lottery office. Rule 9 says prizes above ₹100 are paid only after the ticket is matched with its counterfoil. A forged ticket has no matching stub in the office.

How do you check whether a Kerala lottery ticket is original?

You check a Kerala lottery ticket by scanning its QR code and matching it with the official result. The seller and the price give 2 further checks. Each step uses an official rule or tool.

  1. Scan the QR code with the official Bhagya Keralam app.
  2. Match the draw code, draw date and number with the LOTIS public result page.
  3. Buy only from an authorised agent or seller inside Kerala.
  4. Pay only the price printed on the ticket.
  5. Refuse any ticket offered online, by post or through social media.

The Directorate of State Lotteries rules out 3 sales channels in its FAQ. These are the internet, social media and any sale outside the state. Kerala lottery tickets are sold only as physical tickets.

Which signs show a Kerala lottery ticket is not genuine?

A ticket is not genuine when it is sold online, outside Kerala or above its face value. The Directorate’s FAQ bans all three. Kerala Police warnings add fake apps, fake websites and fee demands.

  • Online sale: the FAQ states that only physical tickets are permitted for sale.
  • Sale outside Kerala: no agent sells Kerala tickets outside the state, directly or indirectly.
  • Price above face value: no ticket is sold above face value under any circumstance.
  • Bundled offers: no ticket is clubbed with a scheme, product or goods.
  • Digit games: 2-digit, 3-digit and 4-digit games built on the Kerala result are illegal.

The FAQ sets rigorous imprisonment of up to 2 years, a fine or both for those digit games. In August 2024, Kerala Police reported fake tickets offered at ₹40. They counted 60 fake apps, 25 fake Facebook profiles and 20 websites.

The Lottery Director stated in October 2025 that the department has no tie-up with any website or app. Kerala Police warned in July 2026 that fake sites copy the official design and emblem. Report fraud on helpline 1930.

Which ticket security features are not confirmed by an official source?

Holograms, watermarks, fluorescent ink and micro-printing are not confirmed by any official source we checked. Several unofficial websites list them as Kerala ticket features. This page leaves them out until an official document names them.

We checked 5 official sources for printed security features. They are the KBPS printing page, Rule 9, the Directorate FAQ, its prize claim page and a Gazette notification. None mentions a hologram, a watermark or special ink.

Use the QR code and the official result as your test. A printed pattern copied from a website proves nothing about a ticket.

What happens when a forged ticket is presented for a prize?

A forged ticket is rejected, and criminal proceedings start against the person who presents it. Rule 9(9) requires the passing officer to confirm every ticket is genuine before payment. Tampered or mutilated tickets are rejected outright.

The officer sends a ticket to the Forensic Science Laboratory only in cases of serious doubt. The prize winner pays the laboratory fee in advance. The office verifies the ticket with the draw result and the counterfoil, according to its prize receipt form.

How do you know the Kerala lottery result sheet is genuine?

The official result sheet is a digitally signed PDF from the Directorate of State Lotteries. Its last page states that authenticity is verified through statelottery.kerala.gov.in. The KR-770 sheet of 3 October 2026 carries the Deputy Director’s digital signature.

The same sheet advises winners to verify their numbers with the Kerala Government Gazette. A result image forwarded on a messaging app carries no signature. Open the sheet from the official website instead.

Our Kerala lottery ticket checker reads these official sheets for every draw of the last 90 days. Confirm any match with LOTIS or the Bhagya Keralam app before you claim.

Is there a secret code on a Kerala lottery ticket?

No. No official source describes a secret code on Kerala lottery tickets. The machine-readable marks named by KBPS are the barcode and the QR code.

Videos and posts that promise to decode a “secret code” offer no official basis. Lottery numbers are drawn by a mechanical device under a panel of at least 3 judges. No printed code predicts a result.
