Fake Kerala Lottery Apps and Websites: How the Scams Work

Fake Kerala lottery apps, websites and social profiles take money for tickets that do not exist. The department sells no tickets online, so every online sale offer is outside the official system. Most then demand fees to release a fake prize.

Which fake channels use the Kerala lottery name?

Kerala Police found 60 fake apps, 25 fake Facebook profiles and 20 fake websites in August 2024. All of them used the Kerala lottery name to take money. Their July 2026 warning added that fake sites copy the official design and the state emblem.

Channel What it claims What it delivers
Fake app Online ticket purchase, results, booking A ticket image, or a fake “win” message
Fake website An official-looking sale portal with the emblem A payment link and a picture of a ticket
Facebook profile or page Offers, bumper “booking” and agents A link to a WhatsApp group or fake website
WhatsApp or Telegram group Winning digits, guessing numbers, booking numbers Requests for payment and personal details

The prices are a giveaway. Kerala Police reported fake tickets offered for ₹40 in 2024. A genuine weekly ticket costs ₹50.

How does a fake Kerala lottery website work?

A fake website draws people in with an advert, takes a payment, then invents a win. Kerala Police described the steps in July 2026. Each step builds trust for the next demand.

  1. An advert promises an offer, such as “Mega Bumper Dhamaka Offer”, “25 crore prize” or “Kerala Lottery Online Booking”.
  2. The link opens a WhatsApp group or a website using the lottery’s name, symbol and logo.
  3. The site publishes “winning digits” to look genuine.
  4. The visitor gives a mobile number to “check the result”.
  5. A congratulation message announces a prize.
  6. The scammer asks for name, bank account number, IFSC code and Aadhaar number.
  7. A “registration letter” on a copied government letterhead demands fees before payment.

What do fake lottery websites copy?

Fake sites copy the name, the emblem, the logo and the page design of the official lottery website. Kerala Police listed these in their July 2026 warning. A copied look proves nothing about the seller.

How does a fake Kerala lottery app work?

A fake app offers online ticket purchase, which no official app provides. The department’s own app verifies tickets and sells none. Any app with a buy button for Kerala tickets is outside the official system.

Search demand shows how many people look for such apps. Ahrefs data for India, October 2026, shows 3 examples of monthly searches.

  • 1,500 searches for “kerala lottery online app”.
  • 700 searches for “kerala lottery online purchase app download”.
  • 450 searches for “kerala lottery app download apk”.

APK download sites list apps named “Kerala Lottery Online” and similar titles. On 4 October 2026, 2 such APK pages ranked in the top 10 for “kerala lottery app”. An APK from a third-party site bypasses the Google Play listing of the department.

How do you recognise the official app?

The official app is Kerala Lottery Official, formerly Bhagya Keralam. Its developer is The Department of State Lotteries, and its package name is gov.kerala.lotis. It carries the Government badge on Google Play.

How do fake social media profiles and WhatsApp groups work?

Fake profiles and groups advertise offers and pass people on to payment links. Kerala Police counted 25 fake Facebook profiles in 2024. Their July 2026 warning named Facebook, WhatsApp and Telegram as the channels.

  • Profiles posing as agents take “bookings” by chat.
  • Groups post “guessing numbers” and charge for “sure” endings.
  • Pages share fake result images with a booking number.

The Lotteries (Regulation) Act, 1998 bars prizes on any pre-announced number, under Section 4(a). A group selling numbers sells guesses.

Which fees do lottery scammers demand?

Scammers demand a fee that a real prize never needs. Kerala Police named registration fees, processing charges, GST, tax clearance and security deposits in July 2026. Their 2024 warning added stamp duty demands on fake ₹5 lakh wins.

Scam demand Official rule
Registration fee Rule 9 has no registration step. The winner surrenders the original signed ticket.
GST on the prize GST is part of the ticket price, paid at purchase.
Tax clearance 30% TDS is deducted from prizes above ₹10,000 before payment.
Processing charge or deposit No payment to any person. The Government guarantees every prize under Rule 9.
Bank details by message Prize money goes to the winner’s bank account after a claim at a lottery office.

A real claim starts with the paper ticket, within 90 days of the draw. It goes to an agent, a lottery office or a bank.

How do you check a lottery website address?

Check that the address belongs to the department’s own domains. 3 official addresses carry Kerala lottery information. None of them sells tickets to the public.

  • The department’s website: statelottery.kerala.gov.in.
  • The LOTIS agent portal and public result list: lotteryagent.kerala.gov.in.
  • The official result sheets: result.keralalotteries.com, linked from the department’s website.

A .gov.in ending alone proves nothing. Our search checks on 4 October 2026 found Kerala lottery “online purchase” pages on 3 unrelated government domains. A Maharashtra services subdomain ranked sixth for “how to buy kerala government lottery online”. None of these pages comes from the Kerala department.

How do you report a fake Kerala lottery app or website?

Report it on 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in, and tell the State Lotteries Department. Kerala Police give the first 2 channels in their warnings. The LOTIS FAQ asks the public to report online sale offers to the department.

  1. Save screenshots of the app, site, profile and messages.
  2. Note the payment details: UPI ID, account number, amount and time.
  3. Call 1930 at once after any payment.
  4. File a complaint on cybercrime.gov.in, the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal.
  5. Inform the Department of State Lotteries about the seller.
  6. Report the app or page on the platform that hosts it.

What happens when you call 1930?

1930 is the national helpline for reporting cyber financial fraud. It runs in all States and Union Territories. The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), Ministry of Home Affairs, operates the system. I4C’s reporting system links 85 banks, payment intermediaries and wallets for quick reporting of such frauds.

The National Cybercrime Reporting Portal at cybercrime.gov.in launched on 30 August 2019. It accepts complaints about every type of cybercrime.

Genuine numbers appear only on official sheets after the 3:00 PM draw. The Kerala lottery result today page shows each result from the sheet.
