How the Kerala Lottery Draw Works: Kulukkal Explained

A Kerala lottery draw is a public draw where a random mechanical device picks the winning numbers before judges. It takes place at Gorky Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram. Weekly draws start at 3:00 PM. The numbers become the official result sheet the same afternoon.

What is a Kerala lottery kulukkal?

A Kerala lottery kulukkal is the draw that picks the winning tickets of a Kerala State lottery. Kulukkal (കുലുക്കൽ) is the Malayalam word for shaking. Searchers use it for the draw and its numbers, 4,500 times a month for “kerala lottery kulukkal”.

The official word on the Directorate’s website is നറുക്കെടുപ്പ് (narukkeduppu), meaning draw. Its result page is titled “നറുക്കെടുപ്പ് ഫലം”, the draw result. The Department of State Lotteries runs every draw under Rule 8 of the Kerala Paper Lotteries (Regulation) Rules 2005.

The department holds 7 weekly draws, one each day. Examples are Karunya on Saturday, Bhagyathara on Monday and Dhanalekshmi on Wednesday. It holds 6 bumper draws a year on top of them.

How is a Kerala lottery draw conducted, step by step?

A Kerala lottery draw runs in 8 steps, from explaining the machine to signing the prize record. The Kerala Gazette notification for the Vishu Bumper 2026 sets out the procedure. It applies rule 8 of the 2005 Rules.

  1. Announce the draw time in advance. The Director fixes it.
  2. Seat the panel of judges, at least 3, with a Chairman.
  3. Explain the draw machine’s operation to the judges and the spectators.
  4. Run the mechanical device, operated by the judges or by members of the public.
  5. Announce each prize number in public as soon as it is selected.
  6. Check the number against sales. Officials of the department confirm it was sold.
  7. Record the number in the official prize proforma. The judges verify and sign it.
  8. Authenticate the finished proforma. Every judge present signs it.

Prizes are drawn in ascending or descending order, according to the notification. Every prize category follows the same method. The supervision rules are explained on the draw judges and machines page.

When and where does the Kerala lottery draw take place?

Weekly draws take place at 3:00 PM at Gorky Bhavan, near Bakery Junction, Thiruvananthapuram. Bumper draws start at 2:00 PM. Every official result sheet prints the venue and time under the draw code.

Rule 8 sets the outer limits. The draw is held at Thiruvananthapuram or at another place in Kerala decided by the Director. It runs normally between 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM. The 3 PM weekly slot sits inside that window. Bumper draws at 2 PM start before it.

The draw is open to the public and streamed live on the department’s YouTube channel. The Karunya KR-770 sheet reads “draw held on 03/10/2026, 3:00 PM at Gorky Bhavan, near Bakery Junction”.

Which prizes are drawn in a weekly Kerala lottery draw?

A weekly draw picks 3 full ticket numbers and 6 sets of four-digit endings. The 1st prize number fixes the consolation prize. The Karunya KR-770 draw of 3 October 2026 shows the pattern.

Prize Amount (KR-770) What is drawn KR-770 result
1st ₹1 crore One full number with series KF 335755 (Cherthala)
Consolation ₹5,000 Nothing new: same number, other series 335755 in 11 other series
2nd ₹25 lakh One full number KH 874154 (Irinjalakuda)
3rd ₹10 lakh One full number KB 809651 (Kollam)
4th ₹5,000 Last four digits 19 endings
5th ₹2,000 Last four digits 6 endings
6th to 9th ₹1,000 to ₹100 Last four digits Long lists of endings

The amounts above are the KR-770 amounts. Each lottery has its own 2nd and 3rd prize. The Kerala lottery prize structure page lists every lottery.

How does one draw give the consolation prize to 11 tickets?

The consolation prize goes to the 1st-prize number in every other series. KR-770 was printed in 12 series, from KA to KM. KF 335755 won ₹1 crore, so KA 335755, KB 335755 and the other 9 won ₹5,000 each.

Why are the 4th to 9th prizes drawn as four-digit endings?

An ending prize pays every ticket whose last 4 digits match, in every series. One drawn ending therefore pays one ticket in each series. The sheet heads this part “For the tickets ending with the following numbers”.

What happens when the machine picks an unsold or repeated number?

An unsold number is discarded and the draw for that prize is repeated. Officials check whether each drawn number was sold. A repeated number is cancelled and that prize is drawn again.

The Vishu Bumper 2026 notification sets both rules. The process continues until a valid number is selected. A prize therefore always goes to a ticket that reached a buyer.

How does a drawn number become the official result sheet?

A drawn number becomes the result sheet through the prize proforma signed by the judges. The designated officer records each number in it. The Directorate then issues the result as a digitally signed PDF.

The sheet carries a generation stamp at the foot of each page. KR-770 shows “03/10/2026 16:35:44”. It is signed by the Deputy Director of the Directorate of State Lotteries. The digital signature reads “Result-Approval” and is dated 16:36:03.

Across the last 40 weekly draws, the official sheet was generated between 4:30 PM and 4:47 PM. BR-111, the Onam Bumper drawn at 2 PM on 26 September 2026, had its sheet at 5:26 PM. The last page names the next draw of the same lottery. KR-770 announces the next Karunya draw for 10 October 2026.

Rule 8 says the Director or an authorised officer announces the results. They are then published in leading newspapers the next day and in the Government Gazette. The full list of channels is on the page about where results are published.

How is a bumper draw different from a weekly draw?

A bumper draw starts at 2:00 PM and draws its higher tiers series by series. Only the 1st prize is common to all series. Each ending prize is drawn a fixed number of times. The Gazette notification fixes every count in advance.

The Vishu Bumper 2026 shows the scale. Its 2nd, 3rd and 4th prizes were drawn once in each of 6 series. The ₹5,000 ending was drawn 30 times and the ₹300 ending 342 times.

BR-111, the Onam Bumper 2026, was drawn at 2 PM on 26 September 2026. The ₹30 crore 1st prize went to TL 360615, sold in Kannur. No Karunya draw took place that Saturday.

Can a Kerala lottery draw be postponed or cancelled?

Yes. The Director can postpone a draw on valid grounds, with wide publicity for the new date. Rule 8 gives the Director this power. Draws on special days are cancelled by order.

  • Karunya Plus KN-618, set for 9 April 2026, was cancelled. That day was the general election day, according to the Directorate’s notice of 24 March 2026.
  • No draw was held on 2 October 2026, as the SK-71 sheet shows.
  • No Karunya draw was held on 26 September 2026, the Onam Bumper day.

Recent days without a draw, from the official sheets:

  • Friday 2 October 2026: no Suvarna Keralam draw. The SK-71 sheet names 9 October as the next Suvarna Keralam draw.
  • Saturday 26 September 2026: no Karunya draw. The KR-769 sheet names 3 October as the next Karunya draw. The Thiruvonam (Onam) Bumper BR-111 was drawn that day.

The latest winning numbers are on the kerala lottery result today page, matched with the official sheet.
